The Volunteer Program Coordinator Summer Student will play a key role in developing and launching Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan’s volunteer program. This summer position will involve creating a volunteer program aligned with Habitat Canada's national standards. The successful candidate will coordinate volunteer processes, recruitment, and onboarding, establishing foundational practices to support volunteer engagement, retention, and recognition. This role offers a valuable opportunity for a student to gain significant project and program management experience while directly contributing to Habitat’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Development
- Program Creation: Develop a structured volunteer program aligning with Habitat Canada standards; create foundational documents, volunteer handbooks, policies, and workflows.
- Recruitment & Scheduling: Serve as the primary contact for volunteers; coordinate recruitment, screening, onboarding, and manage volunteer scheduling across builds, ReStore operations, and events.
Training & Onboarding
- Material Development: Create onboarding and training materials, including general orientation, mandatory training modules, and supervision guides for managers.
- Implementation: Conduct onboarding and training sessions ensuring volunteers clearly understand their roles and responsibilities.
Tracking & Data Management
- Data Systems: Implement and manage volunteer tracking databases, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy of volunteer records and documentation.
- Compliance: Ensure accurate record-keeping aligned with national volunteer management guidelines.
Volunteer Engagement Initiatives
- Communication & Recognition: Develop and execute volunteer recognition strategies, including planning appreciation events to foster engagement and retention.
- Conflict Resolution: Address volunteer inquiries and resolve conflicts professionally and effectively.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Role Development: Collaborate closely with internal departments, particularly ReStore managers, to design meaningful volunteer roles aligned with organizational priorities.
- Supervision Training: Develop volunteer supervision and training modules specifically tailored for managers and front-line staff.
Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Performance Review: Evaluate program effectiveness through regular data analysis, reporting insights, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Recommendations: Provide strategic recommendations for sustaining and enhancing volunteer engagement beyond the summer period.
Skills
- Organizational Skills: Ability to structure and manage new program initiatives effectively, balancing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Communication & Conflict Resolution: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective conflict resolution.
- Database Management: Comfortable managing volunteer data accurately and confidentially.
- Microsoft Office Suite: Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Event Coordination: Experience or capability in planning and executing volunteer-related events.
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable learning and utilizing volunteer management systems, video conferencing, and shared workspace tools like Microsoft Teams.
Experience & Education
- Current post-secondary student, preferably in community development, volunteer management, social sciences, or related fields.
- Previous experience coordinating or participating in volunteer activities strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing community events or team activities.
- Willingness to obtain basic First Aid/CPR certification.
- Valid Driver’s License preferred with a clean driving abstract.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Work Conditions
- Full-time summer position, typically during standard office hours.
- Flexibility required for occasional evening or weekend events.
- Position can be performed remotely or from the Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan Provincial Office.
Compensation
$25.00 per hour
